One of the best parts of my job is getting to listen to kids and their visions for the world and their place within it. It’s reinvigorating, energizing and inspiring. It reminds me that when we provide safe and inviting places for kids to learn, grow and be creative, we directly impact how the world works right now and what it will be in the future. In the past two weeks, I’ve had two opportunities to soak in the wisdom of kids.

USGBC South Florida’s Generation Green Event
The weather held off for the USGBC South Florida Chapter Treasure Coast Branch’s first Generation Green Event on April 21, 2012. 175 registered attendees representing four counties attended the Generation Green Awards Ceremony.
The program was meant to provide recognition for green initiatives and honored people and groups including teacher, student, student group, school, principal and district.The Generation Green event was the ceremony and celebration for these Green Apple Awards.

Pennsylvania Schools are Rocking the Green Ribbon Program!
On April 19, the Delaware Valley Green Building Council recognized all 24 schools in their Chapter’s region that applied for the Green Ribbon program. Two of them, Radnor Middle School and Springside Chestnut Hill (pictured) were notified on Monday by the U.S. Department of Education that they had been named Green Ribbon Schools!

Rachel Gutter Visits Green School in Bali
Last week, Rachel Gutter visited the Green School in Bali, Indonesia to present them with the Center for Green Schools “2012 Greenest School on Earth” Award. The school has some incredible features, such as structures made from environmentally friendly bamboo, solar energy and vortex hydro technology projects to remove the school entirely off the grid, bio-intensive farming around campus to raise organic food and so much more. Check out the amazing video footage of her time there, along with the school’s Earth Day celebrations!
