From redwood trees to adaptive reuse, San Francisco is chock full of incredible sights – green buildings and beyond. At USGBC’s annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, located in San Francisco this year, you can sample from two dozen tours of buildings (and much more), specially curated by San Fran insiders.
Each year, Greenbuild offers attendees more than 150 educational opportunities.
Beyond the practical learning and CEU credits, however, it’s the exchange of ideas, casual dialogue and new expo products that spark excitement and inspiration among attendees.

Imagine the bathrooms at the school you attend or the school your children attend are out of order – what would you do? In the U.S., it’s likely the school would be closed for the day and children sent home until the repairs could be made. Unfortunately, in many places around the world, the school bathrooms are permanently out of order forcing children to go in the street. If that were the case – would you keep your child home from school?
The countdown has begun. One month from now on September 29, the Center for Green Schools at USGBC will host the first annual Green Apple Day of Service, an initiative to have volunteers around the world participate in small acts of service to improve their local school environments. Now that kids are back in school, projects are showing up on the map at a record pace. But one of the things we hear more and more as we get closer to the date is: “I really want to get involved, but I’m worried that there isn’t enough time.”

My first conference was the Bass Fishing Conference (probably not the formal name). I was in college and was supporting the Conferences division of Continuing Education. My boss told me a coworker met her husband at one of our conferences. At 18, I wasn’t interested in a husband just yet but I did end up falling in love…with events.
At Rasmussen College, you see a lot of green. It’s not only one of the school’s main colors, but staying eco-friendly or “green” is something Rasmussen College tries to implement at all 22 of its campuses. The college is focusing on energy management, lighting, and small steps to become more environmentally friendly and make smarter sustainable decisions.
