Let’s cut to the chase, shall we?
The legwork has been done. The research has been conducted. The numbers have been crunched. As far as we can tell, it is going to cost the U.S. an investment of nearly a quarter of a trillion dollars to upgrade our nation’s schools just to working order, and nearly half a trillion to bring them into the 21st century.
And the cut-to-the-chase part boils down to one simple but undeniably tough question: How can we possibly afford to do that?
Congratulations to the five selected leaders who will work with USGBC National and the Center for Green Schools to launch and grow its newest program, Community Green. Community Green is USGBC’s commitment to supporting community colleges in educating the next generation of green building professionals who can lead and drive strong local sustainable economies. These five Chairs will work regionally to engage community colleges in the USGBC network, and support them in bringing green building education and activities to their campuses and communities.
As a former teacher, I’ve seen first-hand the transformative effect that great educational environments can have on teacher motivation, student performance and community engagement. I also know that parents are unfailingly dedicated to their children’s education and will do just about anything to give their kids an advantage in life.
